![]() It's kind of like a plugin to iTunes software which adds support for FLAC and DSD, and improves the sound quality of iTunes as well. Other questions come to mind: How is the quality through AppleTV as compared with the Express? What's an appropriate DAC for this purpose?Ĭlick to expand.Tom - Check out P ure Music software by Channel D. I wonder if there are other ways to acheive this. AppleTV seems like an answer to my question above (and I would need either a separate DAC or digital receiver), and maybe the best one. Thanks for the clarification SamS (just arrived while I was typing this). More generally the question is how do Apple users get around the fact that AirPlay only serves iTunes, and wirelessly stream all their audio from their computers & devices to a stereo. If there isn't a standalone device that can do this then I guess AppleTV is the way to go. There are devices out there which look like they can receive a stream and plug into a stereo, for a pretty low cost, but they are Bluetooth (which I understand compresses audio quality).Īnybody know a device which can do this at a higher quality than Bluetooth offers? on our PC monitors.Īnother thought regarding wirelessly playing through our stereo (and being able to play all our music sources, not just iTunes). ![]() We have only one TV in the main system, and just watch movies, etc. 1 NAS, 5 PC's (1 for each family member + an HTPC) that are LAN connected and use JRiver Media Center 19 for movie and music playback. Each PC has JRiver Media Center 19 and we can all stream bit perfect music (or movies) via JRiver (although in my kids rooms listening is much less critical as they only have the monitor's speakers or their gaming headsets for playback). My kids 3 bedrooms each have a PC Monitor/Desktop + 1 Xbox (we use the PC monitor for Xbox sound, video playback).ĥ. In my living room I have an (1) HTPC ( ASUS VivoPC) with a wireless keyboard and mouse, (2) Rega DAC (with a Musical Fidelty V-Link 192 USB/SPDIF converter), (3) Rega Brio-R and Decware Tube Amp, (4) Omega Loudspeakers and Sub, (5) HDTV, (6) Rega RP6 Turntable.Ĥ. In my Master Bedroom I have (1) PC Monitor and Desktop, (2) a small external DAC, (3) self powered speakers.ģ. All of my media is located on the NetGear NAS and our desktops are set to backup on this as well.Ģ. I have a NetGear ready NAS 100 with (2) 2 TB drives set up for RAID next to my network patch panel in my Master bedroom closet. Since each bedroom and the living room already has 2 network jacks, we don't need to deal with wifi accept when using our iPads/iPhones.ġ. I have a 4 bedroom townhome that is already setup for networking so each room is setup for an Ethernet LAN with a main patch panel in the Master Bedroom. I am coming from a PC perspective, but thought you may like to see another way to set up that's possible - this could be done with Macs as well. IMO wireless playback in critical listening areas is not optimal, but for non-critical applications such as playing back from laptop speakers it should be fine. Other than iPhones I don't have Mac/Apple experience, but find it interesting how much our setups can differenciate, but still get to the same place.
